Kankakee Kultivators garden club

Beginning in May 2006, Kankakee Kultivators led a community project in construction of a meditative shade garden incorporating both native and ornamental trees, shrubs and perennials. Located in the Small Park-Kankakee County Museum campus, the garden features some of Kankakee County’s historical artifacts—columns, from which the garden derives its name, came from the former First Trust and Savings Banks and the bells from area schools.

A project goal was to create a quiet meditative setting for all generations to study plant life and impart the importance of the preservation of local history, architecture, and environment in a garden atmosphere…come and see if the goals have been met.

This garden honors the military men and women who protect the freedom of our country. Located at the entrance to the Kankakee County Museum, it was inspired by a “Let Freedom Ring” Grant from the Principal Finance Group in collaboration with the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
